correlation

digital (no)rights management

i knew i was going to regret this.

the propellerhead twonks released the latest version of reason, combining their unwanted record app and requiring an "ignition key" usb dongle. the dongle comes from some kraut morons and includes an app called codemeter.

of course, codemeter is as nasty and draconian as expected. it starts a daemon from launchd that listens on port 22350 for local connections.

this fills the system log with firewall messages.

can you open port 22350 with the osx firewall? of course not. all part of apple's dumbing down their o/s to attract fondleslab users.

the best bit is the codemeter app. on my machine(s), it runs auf deutsch. and can you switch languages to something you understand? ha!

we thought they were kidding ....

hyperventilating hippies were always on about the nasty fascist state just around the corner. funny how it's now here. the 1% have won. the pigs are their private 911 militias. democracy, eh?

continued #applefail

the latest bullshit from cupertino is my imac keeps trying to access the remote disk in my time capsule since the upgrade to 10.7.2 (it's possible the guilty party is airport release 7.6 but i'm pretty sure this annoying behaviour was happening before i upgraded the time capsule - regardless, it's also apple code).

the time capsule is only used as my itunes library - a network attached storage unit. previously, if itunes wasn't running on the imac, the disk in the time capsule would spin down and the unit would sleep. now it gets awakened every five minutes with an "afpfs_DoReconnect" request.

by the way, the itunes library is shared but no other machines were using it when i was really bothered by this annoying behaviour. filed 10454739. (didn't realize that by upgrading my apple products i was volunteering to do their smegging q/a ....)
