digital (no)rights management

i knew i was going to regret this.

the propellerhead twonks released the latest version of reason, combining their unwanted record app and requiring an "ignition key" usb dongle. the dongle comes from some kraut morons and includes an app called codemeter.

of course, codemeter is as nasty and draconian as expected. it starts a daemon from launchd that listens on port 22350 for local connections.

this fills the system log with firewall messages.

can you open port 22350 with the osx firewall? of course not. all part of apple's dumbing down their o/s to attract fondleslab users.

the best bit is the codemeter app. on my machine(s), it runs auf deutsch. and can you switch languages to something you understand? ha!
